Our main purpose is to provide the most relevant data that will determine the translational efficacy of the tested technology.
This is done with an array and combination of a number of risk factors such as
- Age
- Genetic susceptibility utilizing transgenics mice and rats
- High-fat (“western”) diet
- Male/Female ratio
- Background diseases
Induction
Induction is usually performed via a direct injection of Streptozotocin (stz) that causes a destruction of pancreatic beta cells.
Depending on the dosing of stz, either type I or type II diabetes is observed.
Other methods are also available such as:
- Transgenic diabetic-prone mice and rats
- Surgically-induced diabetes via pancreatectomy
